Helpful Hints for making a Memory
Maker book.
Time Consideration.
When making a book, be prepared to spend 45 to 90 minutes.
Our inventory of templates and backgrounds can inspire latent
creativity in even the most left-brained people. You may want
to plan on creating a rough layout initially and then returning
later to install the finishing touches. Be sure to play with
all of the effects that are available to give your book a truly
custom appearance. Cards, cups, prints, and posters take much
less time to create since they use fewer images.
Have an ample supply of images.
A 20-page book will require 70 to 90 images to adequately
tell a story. Before you begin the uploading process, create
a folder on your computer’s desktop with copies of all the images
that you want to upload. This will make locating all of your
images easy. Be sure to install the image loading plug-in software
on our website. This plug-in will allow you to drag a whole
folder of images into an up loader window and send with one
mouse click.
Image sizes. Bigger
isn't always better. For most of our products, a jpeg image
that is 1.5 Mb (1,500k) is large enough to make excellent looking
products. Images that are larger than this take longer to upload
and don't add to the overall quality. Most new cameras will
take giant image files. Don’t hesitate to make your files smaller
at the camera. A 6Mb capture is about all you’ll need.
Naming Images. If
you have the ability to rename your images, use a naming convention
that will help put them in chronological order. Example: Vacation1.jpg,
Vacation2.jpg, Vacation3.jpg, etc. By putting your pictures
in order before you upload them, you will be able to take advantage
of the “Auto Build” feature that makes the books for you. This
will save tons of time in the editing process.
Books tell stories.
Make sure that you have pictures of a specific event
or series of events, like a wedding or a family vacation. It’s
best to think of your events in terms of a beginning a middle,
and an end. Be sure that you collect pictures of the event and
people reacting to the event. These are the images that make
an event interesting. Also, try to have a handful of "Filler"
images. These can be photos of the interesting landmarks around
you event (a fountain, a carousel, a flower garden) that will
work well for custom backgrounds and transitional pages.
